Complete Restoration After Plumbing Excavation

When plumbing work requires excavating through asphalt — whether for water main replacement, sewer line repair, or new service connections — HYDROPRO PLUMBING & WATER LTD restores your driveway, parking area, or road surface to its original condition. We handle the entire project so you don't need to coordinate separate contractors for plumbing and paving.

When Asphalt Restoration Is Needed

  • Water main replacement — the service line from the street to your home often runs under your driveway
  • Sewer line replacement — sewer laterals frequently cross under driveways and parking areas
  • Storm drain connections — new drainage installations may require crossing paved surfaces
  • Underground utility repairs — any buried pipe requiring traditional excavation through asphalt
  • Municipal right-of-way work — City of Vancouver and Burnaby require professional restoration when cutting into public roads and boulevards

Our Asphalt Restoration Process

Sawcutting

Before excavation begins, we sawcut clean, straight edges in the existing asphalt. This prevents ragged edges that lead to premature cracking and creates a solid bonding surface for the new asphalt patch.

Excavation & Plumbing Work

We remove asphalt and base material to access buried pipes, complete all plumbing repairs or installations, and prepare for backfill.

Compacted Backfill

Proper backfill is the most important factor in a lasting asphalt repair. We backfill in lifts (layers), mechanically compacting each lift to prevent settling. Poorly compacted backfill is the #1 cause of sunken asphalt patches — we ensure this doesn't happen.

Gravel Base

A crushed gravel base layer (typically 6-8 inches for driveways, more for roads) is installed and compacted above the backfill. This provides structural support for the asphalt and proper drainage.

Asphalt Paving

Hot-mix asphalt is laid in one or two lifts depending on the thickness required, then machine-compacted with a plate compactor or roller to achieve proper density. We match the existing surface elevation to prevent tripping hazards and water pooling.

Edge Sealing

We seal the joints between new and existing asphalt with hot-pour crack sealant to prevent water infiltration that causes premature deterioration.

Asphalt vs. Concrete Restoration

For driveway and road restoration, asphalt offers several advantages over concrete: faster installation (can be driven on within hours vs. days for concrete), lower cost for large areas, easier to match existing surfaces, and more forgiving of minor settlement. However, for sidewalks and areas requiring specific municipal finishes, concrete may be required. We'll recommend the best option for your situation.

Municipal Compliance

When plumbing work affects public roads, boulevards, or sidewalks, both the City of Vancouver and City of Burnaby have specific restoration requirements. We're familiar with municipal standards for both cities and ensure all restoration work meets or exceeds requirements — including temporary and permanent patching specifications, traffic control, and permit conditions.
